Masters in Education, Urban Education
The Masters of Education degree at Southern Methodist University (SMU) has provided me the opportunity to reflect on the past and current education systems that have impacted students. I have been able to deeply reflect on what urban education mean and what that implies.
Working at a Title I school provides different opportunities and experiences than a school that is well-resourced. It has a different and diverse population of students that experience challenges completely different than a suburban school, charter school, or private school. Students are expected to perform at the same rates

Race, Power, & Politics, Dr. Janitha Johnson
Race, Power, & Politics provided the historical background and context for me to understand the systemic racism that has impacted students of color, particularly Black and Latinx students, since the start of public education in the United States.
My Masters Project was to analyze an urban district and make connections with past and present local, state, and national policies that have continually perpetuated the educational inequities that impact students.
